What breaks without it
Music video is the one format where cut timing is non-negotiable. A pile of five-second clips that all begin and end on a static frame cannot sit on a beat.
How the run is built
- 01Set each shot's duration to the bar length you need, from five up to fifteen seconds.
- 02Score the camera: static on verses, tracking on the pre-chorus, push on the drop.
- 03Hold one performer across every shot so the cuts read as coverage, not as different videos.
The part you write once
This block is prepended to every shot in the run before it reaches the model. It is the reason shot four still has the same cast, the same room and the same grade as shot one. Edit it and the whole sequence moves together.
Single vocalist, close-cropped bleached hair, oversized black jacket, silver rings. Empty municipal swimming pool, drained, tiled walls, one working strip light. Hard practical light, heavy grain, cyan shadows.
The part you edit per shot
Shot one is directed from text. Every shot after it opens on the previous shot's final frame, so the cut lands on continuous motion.
- 01[Static shot]
She stands at the deep end, holding the frame, mouthing the first line.
- 02[Truck right]
Camera slides along the pool edge as she walks the opposite way.
- 03[Push in]
Fast approach to a close-up as the strip light flickers on the downbeat.
- 04[Pedestal up]
Rising away from her to the tiled rim, the pool opening up underneath.
